Self-Assessment and Other End-of-Course Items:

Closing out the Sport Psychology course.

Well, here we are at the close of the semester.  I want you to know that I have thoroughly enjoyed having you in this course.  You've worked hard, worked well together, kept your sense of humor, and, I hope, learned a little bit more about sport psychology than you knew when you started way back in January.

I know that you got me to think.  The vast and varied professional practice knowledge you brought with you to the course added tremendously to the course experience for all, I'm sure. Your thoughtful posts certainly have improved my understanding of the application of sport psychology.  Thank you.

Doing this course this semester was tough for a wide variety of personal and professional reasons, and you did very well in overcoming those obstacles. You should be very proud of your level of accomplishment and your persistence. Congratulations!

There are just a couple more things to do, but they are very important to you and to me.

In order to complete the course, these are the things that you must complete by Thursday, May 3, 2007:

Note: Any remaining make-up coursework must be submitted by Thursday, May 3, 2007, too.

UT TeleCampus Course Evaluation

If you haven't already done so, please fill out the course evaluation.  The feedback that you provide will be very helpful to me in redesigning the course and to the UT TeleCampus in improving their service to you, the student.

Go there now, and fill out the form; it will only take about 10 minutes.  Thanks.  There are questions related to this course, to the UT TeleCampus services, and to the entire Kinesiology Online Program.

Here is what you need to do to get to the survey:

Go to the TeleCampus Information System (TIS) site:

http://tis.telecampus.utsystem.edu/login.asp

Login with your usual username and password, the one you use to get to Blackboard, and then click on Surveys and Evaluations in the left-hand navigation bar. Select the course you wish to evaluate – this one is KINE6320 aka KINO6320. If you have already filled out the form, there will be a “completed” notation beside the course name.

If you have any questions or problems, please contact the TeleCampus at 1-888-TEXAS 16, or email:  telecampus@utsystem.edu.

Course Feedback

There are two more aspects to the course evaluation.  I can imagine that you might not want me to see your answers to these questions (at least not before I assign grades :-); therefore, I would like you to email your responses to Jessica Castillo, Administrative Assistant in the department office, at Castillo_je@utpb.edu. Please, use the subject line KINE 6320 Survey, so that she will know what the email is about.  She will collect the results across students in the course, so I will only see the aggregate or combined responses. I will not know who answered what - promise. Thanks.

First of all, please provide me with any feedback as to how to improve the course.

  1. What aspects of the course did you find particularly worthwhile?
  2. What aspects of the course did you find not particularly worthwhile?
  3. What was the most valuable part of the course and should not be eliminated?
  4. If you were going to reduce the workload in this course, what would you eliminate?
  5. If you were to add something to the course (a topic, an activity, etc.), what would it be?

I am also interested in the following questions about what you did in the course.    In your email to Jessica Castillo (Castillo_je@utpb.edu), please answer the following (The percentages can be approximations; I'm just trying to get an idea.  Thanks.):

  1. Approximately what percentage of the textbook reading did you do?
  2. Approximately what percentage of the XanEdu materials did you read?
  3. Approximately what percentage of the course material on the TeleCampus Blackboard course website did you read?
  4. Approximately what percentage of the self-tests on the course website did you complete?
  5. How helpful were the self-tests (the mouse-over pop-ups) as a check of your understanding? (Pick from: Very helpful, Sort of helpful, Not very helpful, I didn't do them.  Feel free to expand your answer, too.)
  6. Any other comments that you would like to make about the course or the professor - that's me :-)

Self-Evaluation: the final exam

(Remember, this assignment is worth 100 points, so give it your best effort.)

The purpose of the activity is to integrate and assess your learning by identifying the outcomes most important to your professional development.  It is worth 100 points and replaces the final examination, so please give your responses considerable thought.  Your response should cover the following and should be posted in Discussion Board under Self-Evaluations by Thursday, May 3, 2007. Make sure you complete the first three parts with a fourth part optional:

1.  Identify outcomes: What were five important things you learned in this course and why they were important?  Select five concepts, principles, ideas, or experiences that were relevant to you, and discuss why they were important in terms of any one, two, or all of the following:

  • Changes in knowledge
  • Changes in attitudes, beliefs, or appreciations
  • Changes in skills or applications in your own work

2.  Assess goals:  Did you achieve your goals for the course; why or why not? Revisit the goals you posted at the start of the course. Think about the overall outcomes of what you learned. Did the outcomes meet your goals; why or why not? Did you gain important outcomes that were not among your initial goals? If so, what were they?

3.  Identify overall value:  What is the overall value of the course for your professional or personal development?  Briefly summarize, in one paragraph, the value of this course.  The summary should draw a conclusion or state a general theme about the overall value to your development professionally or personally.

4.  Respond to the posts of others:  As time and energy permit, post comments on the "self-evaluations" of others in the course.  This activity may go on after the course has officially ended.

Say "Bye" to your colleagues

This isn't required, but how about a farewell post to your colleagues in Discussion Board under Bye.
