My time in the public school is dwindling and I am not sad about it, I look forward to the next part of my life in Higher education. My coaching experiences have been in Volleyball, Boys and Girls Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Football and Boys and Girls track. I have coached at both the Junior High and High school levels. Lori Sumners
Job Title: Instructor
School/Organization: Medicine Hat College
URL: www.mhc.ab.ca
Favorite Physical Activities: running, swimming, weight training
Hobbies: reading, cooking, hiking
A little bit about you: I am 34 years old and live in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. I received my undergraduate degree in Physical Education back in 1994 from the University of Saskatchewan. I spent most of my career working on a mutli-disciplinary rehabilitation team treating individuals who had been injured in motor vehicle accidents or on the job. For the past 4-5 years, though, I have been a part-time instructor in the Physical Education Program at Medicine Hat College. It is a small community college of about 3000-4000 students. My primary teaching areas are Human and Functional Anatomy, Physical Growth and Development, and Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries.
I have extensive experience with online courses, as I teach two of my own, and served as a teaching assistant for Dr. Schwane in his online Exercise Physiology course last winter. This is my 7th online course in the Master's Program from the U of Texas, so I also feel comfortable as an online student. I chose this course because I have always had an interest in Sport Psychology. I do not foresee applying this course directly to any practical settings as I currently do not work with competitive athletes, and I am not a competitive athlete myself. I do however, like th subject matter, and hope that I can gain a better understanding of the psychological aspects of sport and physical activity. I see this course as an opporutnity to expand my kowledge base and add to my current field of knowledge and practical skills.
Chrissy Freeman
Job Title: student
School/Organization: UTSA
Favorite Physical Activities: tennis, running, biking, rock climbing
Hobbies: sewing, dancing, reading, piano
A little bit about you: My name is Chrissy Freeman, I am a graduate of Brigham Young University in Exercise Science. I am 23 years old and have been a student all my life, I have had a few jobs here and there but do not have any professional experiences. However, I hope to become a college professor of Physiology. I enrolled in this course to fullfill the requirement in UTSA's Kinesiology graduate program. This is my first Sport Psychology course and it seems to be an interesting field. I have taken a few courses online before, through Brigham Young, and I am fairly comfortable with my computer skills.
Lorena E. Tidwell
Job Title: Athletic Trainer
School/Organization: Laredo Community College
Favorite Physical Activities: jogging, working out, and playing volleyball
Hobbies: I enjoy reading and completing Sudoku puzzles.
A little bit about you: Hi! My name is Lorena Tidwell. I live in
Laredo, TX and work as an Athletic Trainer at Laredo Community
College. I am a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University in
Hammond, LA, with a degree in Kinesiology with emphasis in Athletic
Training. I started the UTTC online program last spring, having
completed 15 hours, and I'm looking forward to graduation in this
Master's program. As an athletic trainer, we deal with all
athletes. The issues that interest me the most in Sports Psychology
would be how stress affects performance and how athletes deal with
injuries.
George Buse
Job Title: Aerospace Medicine Physician
School/Organization: United States Air Force
Favorite Physical Activities: Lifting weights to classic rock, running on the beach, and cycling in the country.
Hobbies: Writing, listening to music, traveling, working out.
A little bit about you: Greetings, class! I look forward to learning about
and working with each of you this semester!
I got my bachelors degree in biochemistry at the University of the Pacific (Stockton, CA), went to the Medical College of Wisconsin (Milwaukee, WI) for my MD, joined the United States Air Force, completed an internship in general surgery at Keesler Air Force Base (Biloxi, MS), and then underwent some more training in San Antonio to become an aerospace medicine physician.
I'm currently stationed at Hurlburt Field, FL. My work involves clinical duties (mostly sports medicine-based), preventive medicine, flying, and emergency field care when deployed.
So why in the world am I studying kinesiology, yet alone sports psychology? Troops in the military (special operations especially) are akin to athletes. Both train to develop their skills and optimize their conditioning. They then go to war, or compete as the case may be. They seek to overcome the challenges set before them--whether it is on the battlefield or in a stadium.
Subdisciplines of kinesiology such as exercise physiology, biomechanics, and sport psychology translate to the performance of the soldier, sailor, and airman. By increasing my knowledge in these areas, I hope to apply this knowledge to the betterment of our troops.
In addition, I enjoy implementing what I learn to my own training. This will be my fourth course in the online kinesiology program, and I look forward to working with you all over the next several months!

Terrence Ates
Job Title: Student / Waiter / Gymnastics Teacher / Pro Wrestler
School/Organization: University of Texas at Tyler
URL: http://tragemini.tripod.com
Favorite Physical Activities: Ultimate frisbee, yoga, resistance exercise, wrestling, gymnastics, Pilates, running, football
Hobbies: Ultimate frisbee, yoga, resistance exercise, wrestling, gymnastics, Pilates, running, listening to music, quoting movie lines, traveling, eating
A little bit about you: Born and raised in Tyler, TX, I'm a 1st year grad
student at UT-Tyler; my education was attained from Tyler John Tyler H.S.,
Tyler Junior College (AA in kines), and UT-Tyler (BA in health/kines).
Since I first saw pro wrestling as a kid on TV, I have been living my dream
for the last 5 years as a professional wrestler on the Texas indy circuit,
wrestling at fairs, county festivals, regional promotions, and nationally
televised wrestling companies.
I'm a husband to the most wonderfully amazing woman, Jeanie, and we're the parents of the most darling 8 1/2 month year old daughter. My interest in gymnastics, one of the several reasons I enrolled for this course, has allowed me to become a part-time tumbling and trampoline coach in Tyler. Becoming a better instructor of gymnastics and other sports is my ultimate goal I hope to attain in this course, for my wife and I plan to own and operate a wellness and fitness complex primarily aimed at those who are susceptible to health-related diseases and conditions. In addition, my own sports performance can be enhanced and increased by the psychological concepts and strategies that I hope to learn in this class.
My prior experiences with online instruction has afforded me with easier access to course materials and a broader view of the semester that can be augmented and reviewed throughout the course. However, pitfalls arise when I do not take the time to log onto Blackboard and look at the class site. Every one of my classmates should look at the course website everyday ... even on weekends. And if you're like me and you have internet access at home that you or someone has to pay for, maker sure that you pay that bill first!! So far, that has been the difference between making a great grade and not making the grade you wanted to make.
I'm really looking forward to diving into the material and learning as much as I can.
John Avritt
Job Title: Assistant Head Girls Basketball Coach/Head Girls Track Coach
School/Organization: Copperas Cove HS Favorite
Physical Activities: Playing with kids, walking dog, basketball
Hobbies: kids
A little bit about you: I graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in Kinesiology. I've been teaching/coaching for 12 years now and recently decided to go back and get my masters and hopefully doctorate in sport psychology. I love coaching but its time to pursue something different. This is just my second semester. Last semester I took Exercise Psych and Stats. I really enjoyed it. I have a great wife who is an assistant principal and 4 (that's right, I said 4) awesome boys. They are Jake-10, Luke-6, Kellen-4, and Grayson-17 mo. We have a ton of fun. I'm excited about this course, maybe more excited than I've ever been about a course, because it directly applies to what I've been basically doing for the past 12 years.
Loren Gorman
Job Title: Teacher
School/Organization: Copperas Cove ISD
Favorite Physical Activities: running, weight lifting
Hobbies: working out, playing with son, reading
A little bit about you: I have my undergraduate degree from Southwest Texas State University, now called Texas State at San Marcos, which really makes me mad. I majored in exercise sports science with a minor in business. I have a personal trainer certification from NASM, but currently do not train. I am a resource language arts teacher and special education department head at C.R. Clements in Copperas Cove, Texas. I hope to have a physical education position next year open up at my school so I can take that job. I am currently working on revamping our current PE program. I enrolled in this course because I am interested in what keeps elite athletes going even when it hurts. What do they mentally do to get their body to perform even when they are tired?
My husband is in the Army and is currently away on a year on assignment in Korea. I have a two year old son that keeps me on my toes and who has taught me about priorities and time management.
Patricia Mojdara
A little bit about you: I have a BS in Sports Medicine from Pepperdine University, and additional graduate work in Excercise Physiology at Temple University.

Since I am rasing three children and running a riding facility, online courses are imparative to continuing my education
Chris Bryant
Job Title: Head Soccer Coach
School/Organization: Midland Lee
Favorite Physical Activities: Soccer
Hobbies: Soccer and golf
A little bit about you: I graduated from UTPB in 2001 with a BS in
Kinesiology. I played soccer for 4 years at UTPB. I got a head coaching job
at Midland Lee right out of college. I have been at Lee for 6 years. I am
also a professional coach for the Dallas Texans club soccer team. I was
elected to TASCO (high school soccer organization) last year. I also teach
biology at Lee. I really enjoy teaching biology almost as much as coaching.
I have a wonderful wife, Ashley, who is also a biology teacher at Lee and 3
boys (Braiden 4, Landon 4, and Avery 1) I enrolled in sports psychology
course due an intrest in learning new techniques of motivating my players.
This will be my last course. I will be working on my thesis this semester

Bob Ryan
Job Title: Personal Trainer
School/Organization: Fitness First Health Connection, Inc.
Favorite Physical Activities: Running, swimming, bicycling, and resistance training
Hobbies: Fishing
A little bit about you: I am Bob Ryan. I reside in the small west central Illinois town of Barry with my wife, Marcia, and two daughters, Eden and Morgan. I attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and earned a B.A. in Political Science. I then worked for the State of Illinois until my retirement. I am presently a personal trainer. Although my business is small, targeting a four thousand area population, I anticipate future expansion. My long term goals are to extend my services to those confined to residential treatment centers, to organize competitive events such as triathlons and 5K races, to teach at a local community college, and to form joint ventures with hospitals and other health care providers (not necessarily in that order).
I enjoy running, swimming, bicycling, and resistance training. My most memorable experience(s) related to exercise would be the development, implementation and evaluation of my two-year training program that prepared me for my first marathon race held in Chicago, Illinois in 2001. The race was a culmination of my effort, but the overall development and execution of my training program was most enjoyable. My program was divided into phases and each phase brought forth new mental and physical challenges. I enjoyed the journey more than the outcome.
My background in Sport Psychology has been limited to an online undergraduate class through California State University at Dominquez Hills. I have taken other classes online through theUniversity of Northern Colorado (Exercise Physiology), Eastern Oregan University (Human Movement), and Mayville State University (Anatomy and Physiology I and II). What I discovered as a personal trainer was how limited my knowledge was regarding the psychological element of my clients in an exercise environment
Beth Domenico
Job Title: Stay-at-home mother, volleyball coach
School/Organization: Hagerstown Community College
Favorite Physical Activities: volleyball, spinning
Hobbies: playing volleyball, scrapbooking, playing with my children

I am working towards a degree in Kinesiology to hopefully one day get a teaching position at Hagerstown Community College. My husband and I are the volleyball coaches at HCC. We just finished our 6th season as the head coaches. The last 4 seasons we have taken our team to nationals. I really haved injoyed my psychology classes in the past and am very interested in sports psychology because of coaching 17-19 year old girls. We just came off of a very emotional season and I am looking for some insight on how to connect with our athletes better.
Wyketha Harrell
Job Title: Assistant Women's Basketball Coach
School/Organization: Missouri Southern State University
Favorite Physical Activities: Basketball
A little bit about you: Hi! I am Wyketha, I am currently an assistant coach for women's basketball at Missouri Southern State University, in Joplin, MO. I am also an alumni of Missouri Southern I graduated in May 2004 with a B.A Psychology. I am 24 years old and I have been an assistant coach for 2 years now and I am looking to obtain my master's in sports psychology. Because I have such a great love for sports, but no ambition to continue playing, sports psychology and coaching has really become a strong interest of mine. Pete Sattler
Job Title: Teacher (Anatomy and Physiology and Chemistry) and Head Swim Coach
School/Organization: Valparaiso High School
Favorite Physical Activities: swimming, running, biking, hiking, and kayaking
Hobbies: cooking and making up new reciepies and a little coin collecting
A little bit about you: Educational Background:
B.S. in Zoology with minor in chemistry from Miami University (The original, in Ohio)
Teaching Licensure from Valparaiso University
Numerous online courses in genetics, medical physiology, and ecology since I have been teaching.
The coolest course taken so far has been Grizzly bear ecology in Denali National Park Alaska.
Professional experiences:
I have been teaching at the same high school since recieving my teaching license for the last nine years. I teach Anatomy and Physiology, honors chenistry and Advanced Placement Biology. In my freetime I am the head swim coach at valparaiso high school. I have been involved with swimming since I was six years old and swam all the way through college. The following season I took a job as the assistant boy's coach at Valpo and was aksed to be the head girls coach about half way through that season. I have been coaching the girl's team ever since. I once again added the boys team to my dockett at the begining of last season. In the summer time and the off season I am the head senior coach for the valparaiso swim club and I run the corporation's learn to swim program. So as you can see I have to devote a large amount of non-teaching time to the sport.
Reason for taking the course: I am simply looking to become the best possible coach that I can become. In the state of indiana swimming is a huge sport as it is suprisingly one of the strongest swimming states in the country. There is a lot of pressure the athletes place on themselves to compete at such a high level and still be a high school student. I am looking for ways to help my athletes deal with the stress they encounter in thier daily lives as student athletes. I am also looking for ways to help the athletes compete at their highest potential and I have always beleived that the mental aspect of their training plays a large role in their full developement as an athlete.

Vicki (Reesa) Schlueter

Favorite Physical Activities: Basketball, weight lifting, walking
Hobbies: reading, hanging out with friends, listening to live texas music
A little bit about you: Hello!!! My name is Vicki Schlueter but I actually
go by Reesa. I am very excited to be in this class because psychology has
always been an interest of mine and now I am adding that interest to my very
favorite word.....SPORT.
I grew up in Canton, Texas. Yes, we do have the largest flea market in the world. I played sports all through high school and continued playing basketball at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas. I only played a year and decided it was time for me to focus on other things in life. I graduated from HSU in December 1999 and began my teaching career in the Birdville School district. After I met my husband, I got a job and Highland Park Independent School District. At HP, I coach basketball and track and I teach the adapted physical education classes. I love it. Here at HP, we are required to get receive our masters degree by the end of our 6th year. So....here I am! I wasn't sure what to expect in my first sememster but now, starting my third, I am really enjoying it.
My husband, Mark and I live in Frisco, Texas with our boxer, Newbee and our cat, Nike. During what free time I do have (I have to drive quite a bit to get to work and back) I enjoy spending time with friends and listening to live texas music. Job Title: GA Athletic Trainer
School/Organization: John Tyler High School, Tyler, TX
URL: NA
Favorite Physical Activities: basketball, softball, walking
Hobbies: reading, watching movies, playing the flute, counted cross-stitching, talking with friends and family
A little bit about you: I am in my last semester enroute to an M.Ed. in Health and Kinesiology from UT-Tyler. Originially from South Dakota, I graduated with a BS in Athletic Training, spent a year in Missouri at SMSU (now MSU) while being the trainer for softball and field hockey. I've been in Texas for a year a half now, and have been working at a 5A high school in Tyler as an Athletic Trainer. I played sports in high school, but have been around sports mostly as a trainer. I'm excited to take this class and learn more about psychology as it applies to sports and injuries. A big part of the injury process is fear and anxiety--both are components that take part in the rehabilitation process. I look forward to applying knowledge from this course to the athletes I work with.
I have taken several classes on-line and have had positive experiences for the most part. My biggest challange has been keeping on top of assignments, as I am an admitted procrastinator. The instructors that I have had in the past have been very good about answering questions, and I appreciate the freedom an on-line class provides.

Job Title: Assistant Basketball Coach
School/Organization: University of Texas-Permian Basin
Favorite Physical Activities: Running, Lifting Weights, Basketball, Golf

received my Bachelor's Degree in History/Coaching minor from The University

two-time Academic All-Conference player and was named an Academic
All-American my senior year. From there I got to where I am now, working on
my Master's degree with an emphasis on coaching and administration. That
along with interest in developing into the best professional possible is the

Cory Aguilar
Job Title: Collegate Track & Field Coach
School/Organization: Abilene Christian University
URL: www.kyvaulting.com
Favorite Physical Activities: Pole Vaulting, Weightlifting,
Hobbies: Fishing, Hunting, Exercising, and doing anything with my son.
A little bit about you: Where I am now:
I live in Abilene Texas. I am married and have a 4 year old son. I am an Assistant Track and Field Coach at Abilene Christian University. My duties include all aspects of designing and implementing the training for the pole vaulters and the combined-events (Heptathletes and Decathletes). I am also the recruiting coordinator. This year I am on part-time salary and full time work (you know how that goes :)). So for next year, I have worked out a deal with head coach were I will continue my coaching duties only. This way I can start my own personal training business.
Where I came from: I am from Crane TX. I went to Abilene Christian University for 4 years. During that time I pole vaulted on the track and field team & studied exercise and sport science & education. I graduated in 2006, this online program in the summer of 06. This will be my 4th Graduate Course to take from this online program.
Where I want to go: Honestly I am not sure where I want to go with my career right now. I know I want to do something that allows me freedom with my time. I want to be able to spend time with my son and wife and not be a slave to my work. For this reason I do not know how long I will stay in coaching. I love it, but I just do not know if the hours and pay are worth it. I possibly see myself self-employed, with some time of personal training. As I said earlier, I am starting my own personal training business. I am not sure direction I will eventually take, but I would like to train both athletes and the general population.
